I bought a baby turtle about six months ago he has been healthy and fine until a few weeks ago his shell is discolor and peeling. I got him a new UVB bulb and he seems to be more active he is eating fine and he moves a lot. He spreads most of his day basking and sleeps in the water at. Night. His tank is about 78 degrees and the basking spot is about 90. I'm worried his shell is still soft and I picked off a piece that was hanging on and it was gooey. Underneath. I'm worried it might be shell rot. Can someone please give me advice. Thank you.

Did the piece you pulled off dry almost transparent?

(Also, hi; I'm going to let the experts take this one but I wanted to follow this thread to learn stuff too.)

No they had green stuck on them like an imprint of his shell. I read on a blog that I could put peroxide on it so I watered some down and did. It said to leave him out of the water for. A while so it can dry out completely and this is what he looked like after. So after that I put warm water on him and he kinda freaked out. And then calmed down but now he's lethargic and it looks bad:(
I changed his home and and monitoring him closely. But tht front spot really has me worried.

It looks like a wet or dry scud, possibly shell rot (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/medshell.htm)

I'd look over some of the treatment options on that page and review his tank.

ohh. sorry for your loss. :( it could be that your turtle is already sick when you bought him.

Sorry to hear it. His condition does look pretty severe prior to treatment.
