Urgent Care :: Turtle has a slightly soft shell

My 7 month old, 2 inch red eared slider has a sort of soft shell. The edge of his shell is slightly pliable. Is this normal for a 7 month old turtle? He has a UVB light but I think it's not emitting UVB rays anymore. Had it for just over 6 months.

Slightly pliable shells are not unusual for smaller hatchlings (less than a year old), especially the marginal scutes above the tail. With adequate calcium and Vit D3, the shell normally hardens at about a year.

If you think your UVB isn't emitting sufficent UVB rays, it would be good to change it.
