Habitat - Indoor :: need help with making a better turtle tank

While I realize that not everyone here can afford the size of tank that is truly the best, what is limiting you on your ability to buy something closer to the correct size? If it is age, you could try to earn more money by offering to babysit neighbors and or families children. Maybe you could earn more money around the home. Do you have things you do not use anymore? Maybe you could sell them at a yard sale. There could be other things to help build your finances towards a bigger tank for her.
Just some suggestions to hopefully fullfil your desire to get the size and type of tank you truly want.

well no. i'm in college & a nursing student. my parents do not want me to get a job & only want me to focus on school. it's understandable. because i don't have a job, they give me allowance every month. my dad knows i need a bigger tank for my turtle, but he's only willing to pay as much as $80 which could probably get me a 25-29 gallon tank. or if i'm lucky, a 30 gallon. but another problem that i have is the amount of space for a bigger tank. the amount of space i have now for my tank is the most i have for her which is why i prefer getting her a kind of more taller tank. i know it's not preferred, but thatt would be the best i can do for now .

well if you live in new york almost every petland discounts has a 55 gallon for sale for 70 dollars i know the two over in woodhaven queens have them , i've been drooling over them

If you are in NJ stick with craigslist,
I am outside Washington DC and I got a 40g and 55g together for 100, 40g had a stand and 55g didnt so I sold the 55g for 50 to partially cover costs.

Check daily and be willing to go look at something that ends up not being what you want, only other option is to spend more $$$

I'd recommend upgrading your filter before your tank though, Fluval 05 designs work great and are easy to clean.

yea it seems that craigslist is the best site so far for me to get a tank. fluval 05 is a canister filter right? i don't think i'd be upgrading to a new filter anytime soon because my old one recently broke & just bought the one you all see in the pictures now.

right now i'm trying to save enough $ to make the ATBA. i have an idea that may work with the tank that i have now.

Well, all I can say is that trying to make the most out of a minor upgrade usually leads to frustration, and wasting money on inferior upgrades. If you can't make your own money then work out a deal with your dad based on your grades or something.

And keep your eye on craigslist, maybe if you find a good deal you can sell it to him as a time sensitive thing...

right now i'm frustrated that i can't afford a better tank for her, but i think if my idea idea with the new basking area works, then i'll feel much better. lol, my parents do give me $ whenever i get my report card, but mind you i'm in college & my grades only come in after the semester is over.
