Habitat - Indoor :: Quick Question about water temp

I wanted to know is there any harm with the water temp being 82-85 degrees
I ask this because sometimes when no ones at home we turn off the AC
And the house gets a little hot and when i get home and turn the AC on
Tito's water is that temp
And i have to put Ice cubes to cool it off(lol i couldnt think of anything else)

The temp woulndt go down for a while

Is it harmful

So any suggestions

no, not realy - when a turtle is ill it's a good idea to warm up the water to about 82 degrees since it boosts the immune system. but i'd say that if it get like that for a day or two, it wont do no harm, as long as it goes back down to normal.

Thats the problem
Its stays at 82 for a long time
sometimes it gets even higher than that

So sometimes i turn the heater off

At night since my parents lovee to turn up the AC it gets cold
and his water temp drops too(without the heater on)

Sometimes at night they dont turn up the ac so much
So I leave the heater off

The thing is the temp in the house fruncktuates
So Tito's water temp flunktuates

So - during the day when no one is home it gets warm - up to 85 degrees? And it night when the HVAC is on it gets cool - how cool?

When the air temp cools down at night the water heater should come on to keep the water from cooling down too much. Since turtles mosly sleep in water, they should be ok.

If you still think the tank is getting too cool at night you could drape a towel or sheet over it to keep the warmth in. I think it's unlikely that you'd need to do this except in the winter when it gets really cold.

Also, be sure that the turtle tank isn't under an HVAC vent with cold air blowing on it all night. If need be, you can move the tank or close an HVAC vent.

im not worried about the cool since the heater will pick it up

But when the heater is on and the room temp is warm
The water reaches 85 sometimes
and i dont want to turn the heater off because if it gets cold i have to turn it back on at night
and its a whole bunch of holalala
Mainly because the house temp goes crazy up and down

Doesn't the water heater have a thermostat - meaning doesn't it shut off authomatically when the water gets to a certain warmth and turn on again automatically when the water cools off? That's the way most water heaters work.

But when the room is warm the water stays warm until the room is?

Only if it stays that way for a long time. IMO if it stays around 82 degrees during the day (some times) and get back to the high 70's at night then you should be ok. But 85 degrees is too warm, you can freeze some water bottles and place them in the tank when it gets to warm, that or the ice idea is a good one to bring down the temps.

He'll be ok. Water that's too cool is the biggest problem. When it's too warm you have to work harder to keep the water fresh (bacteria multiply like crazy) and Tito will shed skin and his metabolism will be fast but it will be ok. The suggestion to put frozen water bottles into the tank is good.

When my turtles were inside, some of them were on the second floor and there were some days when the water temp got quite high (up to 84F) by the time I got home. I kept water in the fridge and just did partial water changes. I've used ice cubes as well. In the past I've used frozen water bottles, but they would only lower the temp a degree or two and would take up a fair amount of space in the tank.

I've been having this same problem. It's been in about a 100 all week here in Los Angeles. Today I gave in and threw in a couple ice cubes because I couldnt think of anything else...

Can you set a fan on it so the fan blows across the surface of the water? That should cause some cooling through evaporation. In the old days before air conditioning, people used water cooling towers to cool their houses and buildings evaporatively and they were actually pretty effective.

Can you leave a fan on in your room? A fan helps circulate the air & that helps cool down the tank a bit.

Another option: a bigger tank with more water in it. More water means it takes longer for the water to heat up or cool down. This means less temp. fluctuations during the day.
