Equipment Review and Discussion :: anyone experience this?

As I was feeding my fine reptile friends today when I noticed that the rubber at the bottom of my heater is swelling.....Big time! It's huge! Has anyone ever had this happen before?

This heater is only a couple months old, and I think I'm going to have to go buy a new one again. Argh!

Holy crap! I'd get that thing out of the tank, who knows what's making it do that. Is your temeperature still okay? Can you post a picture of it?

What kind of heater is it??

It is a Neptune. It came with my 55 gallon tank.

I've read that those heaters have a lot of problems. A couple of people have had them get stuck on so it never shut off and their tank overheated. I'd get a better heater before a disaster happens.

I like the VisiTherm Stealth heaters. They are made of a tough black plastic so they are turtle safe. The only thing I don't like about them is they have no indicator light to show when they're on or off. But as long as you have a good thermometer that you can check regularly, it's not a big deal.
