I use a syphon for kerosine...kind of weird that my mom even thought of it, but it works well. With a bucket sitting right beside the tank, it should work just fine. They are available at Walmart with the gas jugs, etc and are less than 3 bucks.

There is a drill pump, you hook a power drill to the middle of it and a hose into the tank on one end and a hose out the door on the other end, turn the drill on and poof drains a 55 gallon in 5 minutes flat! It costs around $6 at Lowes, and works great! We have bad water pressure here and I tried the python thing and it takes forever, so I use that to fill the tanks!
