my female turtle is 4 yrs old … she was pregnant again and this time i made a nesting area with a huge wooden box with soil and dampened it too … she kept digging but never laid eggs … and as advised in one of the youtube vdo's i used to keep her in the nesting area for good 4 hrs and then back in to the tank … but she still never laid any eggs .. and one fine day she laid it in the tank but the eggs we broken . didn't know how many she laid… i clean the tank and put her back in to the nesting area so that she might lay some more eggs … she didn't so back into the tank and again in the morning i see eggs been devouvred now i don't know what to do … now she has stopped laying eggs and has started eating again … i need to know was the nesting area built wrong … or because … the first time she was pregnant i didn't know .. and she had laid them in the tank and devouvred them .. is she liking it ( to eat her own eggs ) or is the male eating the eggs … i don't know … i want to see her laying eggs and see small little little turtles

Welcome to the forum! Do you also have a male turtle with her? How big is the tank? How big are the turtles?

If you only have a female(s), her eggs will be infertile. If the turtle is young, her eggs will not be very healthy and you should discard them. Most people on the forum feel RES are overpopulated and the eggs should always be discarded. Plus, the proper care of just one RES is quite demanding.

Nesting tubs are usually unsuccessful. Also, the turtle will have preferred times to nest, so just leaving her in there for hours probably won't encourage her to lay eggs.

It's generally a bad idea to breed your turtles. You'll also likely have to separate the turtles eventually. For instance, our recommendations for female turtles requires having a tank that's about 380 liters.
