My 10yr old son and I are the proud new parents of 2 baby Red Eared Sliders - each one is 1.25 - 1.5 inches long.
To be honest we are having a lot of difficulty getting the little things to eat. I've spent endless hours trawling the internet reading different forums and terrapin sites to try to figure out what I've done wrong and how to rectify it to get the little critters happy and healthy again - yours was the only site that I found to be really friendly and with recent posts.
As you can see from my name I live in the United Arab Emirates, and not in one of the big cities - but in a small oasis town, which is a good 1-2 hr drive from either Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Therefore finding a reputable pet shop which stocks 'reliable' terrapin food/supplies and a veterinarian who treats exotics is out of the question. Regarding the vet - I have tried to contact the Reptile keepers at the local zoo (Al Ain Zoo - which has an excellent reputation) - but the main keeper is out of the country until 15th Sept - and although I spoke to him on the phone he has said that they can don't do consultations/see the animals; but will offer advice. When he comes back I will try and see if I can arrange to get my terrapins seen by the zoo vet ...... but in the meantime I am glad to have found your site and hope some of your members will be able to help out with their expertise and knowledge. I have already read a lot of the topics/threads and put some of the suggestions into practice!
Apologies for the long introduction - I'll be posting my main concerns re my terrapins in the appropriate forum - but for now I just wanted to say 'Hi'.
