I've been coming to this site for a few months but have never formally introduced myself. Well, my name doesn't matter, however our family turtle's name is Tuck (Wonder Pets). My son named him, and he believes his is the one from the show. Well, Tuck came to us January of 2010. My cousin told me that he had a friend in town who needed a ride to the airport. My cousin packs the trunk, drives the friend to the airport, says goodbye. FOUR WEEKS LATER, he's looking though his trunk and he sees a little clear container, with murky half frozen water in it...and a turtle. (In hindsight, the turtle probably only survived because he may have entered hibernation) He calls me and asks me if there was a pond near my house because he wants to let it loose. I told him to come by my place, and he shows up with the turtle. In good conscience I could never let him release the turtle in the pond. He shows the turtle to the kids, and today after several upgrades, and books, and websites, and at least several hundred dollars, Tuck is a healthy 1.5-2yr old male res.

Hi....I'm new her too....
We got our little RES about 4 months ago. It was a gift for my daughter from her auntie. She named the turttle "Lilly". At the beggining my husband didnt want to keep the turttle, after someone at the pet store told him that RES turttles eat like crazyand get super big and all this blah blah ... We've had to upgrade tanks and buy filters, water heaters etc...but we're very happy with our baby RES Lilly!

I got into red ear sliders about ten yrs ago. I went to Cleveland to see a friend. It was January and snow was everywhere. I was a cold and cloudy day. We wanted to go to the zoo (I go the the zoo in every city I visit that has one). Well, while on the way, we wanted to get some drinks. So we stop at a gas station, as we walked in I noticed a green plastic container with the palm tree (turtle lagoon) in it. Now mind you, this is right in front the enterance where there is freezing cold drafts every time someone opens the big sliding doors! I see these turtles in it, they are green and super small. I'm thinking now wait there is no heat no water and these little turts have Webbed feet! So I say how much and get one by this time my friend see them and she is upset. So we go out to the car and I explain it is a reptile and how they need heat and probably water. She calls the humane society and we head to the local pet store! I talk to someone and they give me a book and I get the bare minimums, water heater, ten gal tank, basking platform and a filter with a basking light and a UVB light. Set the turtle up and the rest is history after a vet visit, where I paid $75 dollars on this little turtle that they said had a 90% chance of dying. She survived, recouped and is a big 12 in. ten yr old female, named LT;)
