just watched the video...i was definitely feeling in the wrong area. Poor wilma will be getting a pat-down in the correct place tomorrow. She eats like she is starving so I dont think shes having any issues :) Whew!

It is exciting to get a new tank set up. You are correct, once set up properly the maintenance goes down considerably and so does the cost. Please do keep us updated. Let's hope Wilma doesn't mind her pat down too much.

have you heard of anyone using this filter?
http://aquatop.com/filters/cf-500uv.html

I saw it on the list of generic filters on the filtermedia thread, but I couldnt find much else about it. The reviews all look really good as far as I can tell.

The craigslist guy on the fluval hasnt responded, but i was figuring a 525 gph output would be pretty good for 120$.

What do you think?

Sorry about the heater. During the tank renovation, you might want to put in a less abrasive basking area for her.

The filter in the link is one of those knock offs. They might be OK for some smaller tanks, what's your budget for this?

well, we are raising money through the school...so not much. Right now we only have 45$. I am planning on putting a little of my own money into it as well, but really dont have the personal funds needed to purchase a high end filter. I would really like to spend no more than say 125$ ish. We have already spent $50 on the tank, $20 on the heater, and $20 on the UVB light...and we are working on doing an ATBA as cheaply as we can. She is still sitting in about 4 inches of water. We are trying to clean every 2-5 days right now, but it takes us almost 45 min to clean it well at the moment which is an entire class period. I am really looking to get the best filter that will require the least amount of work as far as keeping the tank clean, for the least amount of money. I have been looking and looking on CL but no one wants to sell the high end filters without the tanks. I would really like her to have the filter before thanksgiving. While I can come up and feed her on my own over the 5 day weekend, cleaning it on my own is impossible. The tank is a 75gallon tank. I simply cant do it by myself. So I guess I am looking for the best, fast, and cheap filter possible. Im open to suggestions but definitely cant afford more than 150$ at the absolute most. Help is definitely appreciated.

What about this??
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/for/2691820260.html

I realize its probably a little small, the filter media thread says 60 turtle gallons, and I have 75, but is that better than one of the cheapos? and is $130 a good price or should I ask for them to come down a little?

A rena xp3 is what I have. It's great and easy to use. It is a little small, but it will do the job. Just use it with any new media it comes with. When you can raise a little more money you can add more bio media to your filter.

So no word for the Rena xp3 on CL. But I found one on Amazon for $130, bit the bullet and bought it...So filter on the way.

I also have a basking area planned out now and my assistant's husband is going to be cutting it this weekend so we can put it together with the kids on Monday.

I finally got the ebay guy with the broken water heater to respond to me after threatening to leave negative feedback, he mailed it today.

So from the looks of things everything should be set to go for a full tank for wilma by next week. That is if she makes it.

Im a little concerned about her now because she threw up everything I fed her today. I fed her the jello shots ive been feeding her for the last two weeks this morning around 9:30. I have her two cubes...a little more than normal but it wasn't like it was a huge amount. Then when the kids were getting their backpacks ready to go home (of course we cleaned the tank today) one of kids says OH! Wilma is eating something and it is making the tank all dirty. The poor baby threw up. Lots! As I am writing this she is basking on her rock and she has been swimming around just fine...is it possible she was just too full? Or maybe she is too cold or something? Im really hoping for someone to tell me it is normal for turtle to throw up and that she just over ate a little this morning and not that she is getting sick. I realize this is probably more of a turtle care thread, but i figured since I already had this one going why start another. Thanks.

Does she have any other unusual symptoms? Let's hope she can hold out until your heater gets here. Hopefully once her water temps and basking temps stabilize she'll feel better. Sorry I can't tell you it's normal for turtles to throw up. Keep an eye out for gasping for air, tilting on the side while in water, inability to submerge, mucus when out of water, not eating and lethargy. Did she throw up her jello shots? Hurray for the filter, heater and basking dock.

Are you sure she didn't just bite a piece of her poop? That makes the water look nasty as well and turtles do that.

Im sure she didnt bite her poop. The jello shots have some whole pellets in them and that is definitely what came out...plus a lot more. The only problem with her being a classroom pet is the fact that i cant check on her at night. Im hoping that she just had a tummy ache cause when i left she wasnt acting any different. Keeping my fingers crossed.

It's possible she ate a bit too much, too quickly.

she seems fine this morning. Cleaned her tank again and fed her a few pellets just to make sure she wasnt hungry. I have no idea what it was. Hopefully I will get the filter in the next few days as well as the heater and we can get things going.
