Thanks!! Thank you so much everyone for all the support and advice. He is keeping his left eye open pretty much all the time now and still tries to open the right one some. I took some pics of his new tank setup. Will try to post them later in the Photo Gallery or at least post a link to photobucket. The UVB light I have is a hood light for the tank. It is the exo-terra Repti-Glo 5.0. It's already held up longer than the $35 Zilla Reptile Bulb I was talked into by the clerk at PetCo. This one even has better UVB output and cost half as much! The other bulb for basking is a ZooMed Reptile Basking Spot Lamp that says "provides beneficial UVA rays". It came as a 2 pack of 75-watt bulbs, but I'll probably just switch to a standard flourescent bulb or even an incandescent when this one burns out. The first one lasted about 2 weeks. This one has been in for about a month. All I have in his tank right now is the filter, a 150-watt heater, a small decoration he likes to crawl around on (and under until he got too big to fit through the hole) and his basking doc. I removed the big basking rock since it got to be a pain to keep the water high enough for him to get up on it all the time. Also it gives him a little more room to swim now. I'm letting the vinegar from cleaning finish airing out before I fill it up and drop him in. I dried it out really well but it still smells like vinegar in there.I also have some anacharis that I'll put in with him. He won't eat it, but he loves to balance on top of it and float around. Oh yeah and a cuttle bone for him to munch on as he feels like it. He used to surf on it when I'd put a new one in the tank. Keep hoping he'll start munching that again soon so I can stop the calcium shots. I know it isn't the most ideal set-up, but he gets everything he should have and I keep adjusting things as I can to improve it. I'm always on the lookout now for a good deal on a 40 - 60 gallon and I'm hoping to make an ATBA in the near future to give him even more room in there.
He almost seems to get around like normal today, but he's still stubbornly refusing to eat anything I offer him. Gonna get hubby after him again when he gets home. He's very alert and active, but he tires out when he gets too excited and then sleeps awhile. I'm pretty sure that's from weakness from not eating for so long. I have to go out tomorrow to get my oil changed in the car, so I plan to look for that water test kit then. I do hope he starts eating normal again very soon.
All this extra care has certainly made for a stronger bond with the 3 of us, but has the cats a bit jealous. Last night they were curious about him, but they know they aren't to bother him, so they would only get so close. Henna would sniff him and then jump backwards when he would move his head to see what she was doing. I think she wanted to help, but wasn't sure what to do. When he's in the tank, she'll sit on the arm of the couch next to it and just watch him.
