omg that's so sad!! I will definitely keep an eye on her, she likes to "play" with our iguana but he just whacks her in the face with his tail. I'll have to put some of my videos up on youtube so you can see. I haven't let her near my turtle yet but when I do I'll I'll be careful. Did only one of your turtles die or did all of them.. so sad.

I've used feeder fish. Guppies are eaten the easiest because while they can dart around quickly, they take a little bit to get accustomed to the new tank, and in that time your turtle will devour them. You can lengthen their life span by adding hiding places, but sooner or later, they will be eaten. I've also put neons, rosies and other small/inexpensive fish who have lasted longer than the guppies, but all met the same fate. I introduced four good sized gold fish, one was eaten immediately, one was eaten later on, and the other two I gave to someone with a pond. My turtles have eaten every single thing to be put in their tank with the exceptions of each other, one large pleco (they ate the smaller one though) and the two goldfish I removed.

Rule of thumb, think of your turtle tank like it's the thunder dome, and your turtle is the defending world champion.

I will have to get some guppies or rosies sometime here soon. I just keep hearing people telling me to freeze the fish before giving them to my turtle in case of parasites. Whats your advice on that? Should I even be worried about it? lol I like how you said "your turtle is the defending world champion" good way to look at it

You can freeze them if you wish, that will kill parasites but I've never done it. I only bought visibly healthy fish then bred them in a tank of their own before introducing them into the turtle tank so they were healthy enough. Pay attention to the conditions of the tank at the pet store, if the water looks good and the fish are healthy then I would just put them right in the tank with the turtle. If there are a lot of dead fish (there will probably always be at least one) or fish with deformations, you may want to segregate them or find them from another store or a local breeder.

As treats I buy the frozen shrimp cubes which is probably the same if not better than just freezing fish.

Yep, I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to spend your free time changing filter pads, changing water and hearing "tink tink tink tink tink tink .... tink tink tink tink tink tink tink" every night as seven turtles are still trying to understand the concept of a glass barrier at the same time.

she killed one of them, the other two seem to be fine. my 3 dachshunds are very curious as to what the turtles are. I just didnt think she would go as far as to take them out when i wasnt around. im going to get a mississippi map turtle as a replacement, so its fine. all 3 pics are of her.

"guarding her bone" haha my dogs get bones and growl at eachother when they get to close to eachothers. Brown longhaired are adorable. I like how the iguana is on a leash. Very cool
