I finally got the time and the money to build an above tank basking area. Its made out of plexiglass that I siliconed together and then added a tank background to. I then put plants all around the basking area so it would make the turtles feel more secluded and not out in the open. It added so much water room, which I bet the turtles are glad for! ;)

And here are some pictures of the happy turtles!

I also added a piece of driftwood to the tank and a bunch of new plastic plants that I got off of bigalsonline.com. Had to throw away all my other ones because I couldn't get the algae off. Plus two new fish.

I have a top on top of the plexiglass. Its the same one I used on my 55 gallon without the ATBA. Unless they are strong enough to lift that up!

Is it a screen top or one of the wire mesh with thicker gaps? Screen tops filter out UV light.

And just in case they get curious, you can get clips to clip the top onto the ATBA for under $10. Those screens aren't very heavy and some turts are very determined.

I cut out the mesh parts so the UVB and UVA can get through to the turts.
