anyone ever got that smell where the tank smells like fish

i had it so many times and the smell circulated throught the house. how do you get rid of that smell?

i just stopped buying fish because of it.

This used to happen when i would over feed and food would be left in the water. It may also be that your filtration needs an upgrade.

im running a rena xp3 on my tank. the smell gets in the filter too.

theres a watter conditioner called clear water it removes cloudyness and odors only thing is you can not have any carbon filtering while it runs its course heres a pic of the bottles

no problem i use it about every other week just cause when the fish dies it leaves the smell and it gets eleiminated by that

I notice the smell only exists in my tank when there is a film on the water surface. Maybe my situation is different, but have you tried directing the filter output to disturb the water surface so the protein film is destroyed?

i never got that film though. and the output is usually close to the waters surface. so maybe it does but im really not sure.
