My turtle is FLIPPING OUT
he keeps snapping his head back and rubbing his face with his hand and crawling in circles he wont let me near him to see if there is something on his face.

HELP

what is going on????

sorry he is out of the water I bought a new contraption (the turtle topper from penn plax and he was chilling out on it and then out of the blue he started panicking and walking in circles and twitching

Don't waste your money with Dr. Turtle... keep it out of the tank. Was he startled? That can happen when they bask, and they head back into the water. I've heard that when in an ATBA, they might freak out until they get back into the water.

no i was watching tv and i kept hearing a scratching noise so took a look and he was spinning and scratching

I have had him for 5 years and i have never seen anything like this. He is loving the turtle topper though his bro is chilling on the bottom part

he is eating fine he just went in the water and kicked his bother away from the food

My turtle flips out after he's been under the lights for awhile. I was told that their skin starts to dry and heat (which is normal) and they get itchy. Boris hits his face and twitches about then goes in the water. It's possible that's whats going on and maybe your turt never experienced it before and it scared him. Just a suggestion but I would keep and eye on it just in case.

Well, your turtle might not be able to find his way out of the turtle topper. I never seen mine twitch because I use the floating dock so if they do they fall in the water but after about 10-20 minutes of basking then I see my turtles scratch his head like a dog when thy itch.

It sounds like his behavior was brought on by his getting a little too warm. When my RES gets really warm basking, he will gyrate and move around until he goes into the water to cool off.

What's the temp of the basking area?
