Well I just found an interest in turtles, and by "just found an interest" I mean I am the proud recipient of that "Wow, we just found this little thing that is about the size of a gold dollar, and you are the animal person in the office who wants to be a vet so here ya go, a new turtle" type of turtle.

Don't get me wrong, I like turtles, but I had never really researched their care before because I wasn't planning on getting one. So right now I am on an accelerated learning curve. Any help is appreciated, because I am the very definition of total newb. I have been reading through the care information on the site (which is very helpful), and am going through the threads in this forum about everything hatchling related, but pointers are much appreciated.

Fortunately I live about a mile from a herp vet, so I will take "Corona" (he's about the size of a beer cap bottle) to see him on Monday. Right now he is in a ten gallon with dechlorinated water, a turtle dock, and a few stalks of anacharis plant. I will buy him a reptile light for a basking platform tomorrow. We live in Florida and he is indoors right no so I'm not worried about cool temperatures.

He has been swimming around and already eaten some hatchling food I got him- Zoo Med Natural Aquatic Turtle Hatchling Formula.

I like him a lot already, but I am not ignorant of the fact that I have no experience with these guys so any newb pointers would be great. BTW he is a slider, but not a RES. He is native to Florida, so I am not sure what type this makes him?

Hi, welcome to the site. This link has a list of items you might need: www.redearslider.com/startup.html

I'd make getting thermometers and heaters on your list too. If he's healthy and eating, I'm not sure if it's necessary to go see a herp vet. Though, its a good idea to see if you like this one.
