What is recommended for nest material? I have read several things. I need a few opinions about it from someone who has a turtle that has nested sucessfully. My RES is spoiled and I do NOT want her laying eggs in her tank just becuase I don't have proper nesting materials.

Personally, I have found that if you make a nesting box that is not accessible from the tank, the turtle(s) will just flip out and try to escape. If you're going to the trouble of building something, find a way to attach it to the tank so that the turtle can access it when she wants to.

You can use a mixture of play sand/garden soil, or soil/peat moss, anything thats warm/a bit damp and comfortable. Bed A Beast or coconut fibre is also good.

I forgot to add that we take our RES out of her tank daily and hold her, let her walk around the house, ect. She will actually follow us or find us if she can't see us. She is very social. And the guy at the pet store said you can't train them.. he forgot to tell "Missy" AKA Princess that. lol
