Early this afternoon, while I'm watching my turtles swim, the water from the filter output splashed the regular light bulb I use a shitty water heater and the bulb exploded. I immediately took my turtles out and they are fine. They were angry though, because normally when I take them out like that, I put them in their blue bucket because they know it's time to clean the tank (which I clean once a week). Well, the blue bucket was dirty cause my mother used it yesterday to mop the kitchen floor, so, I to put them in the bathroom sink. They were furious! First, they had a broken light bulb drop into their tank, and then they had a change of routine, so, they kept hissing at me and being snappy. Not like them at all, they are way more docile and calm than that. Then I went and rinsed out their purple plastic container and filled it with some water for them to hang out in.
So, the white paint coating the bulb came off in the water. It was floating on the surface, so, I used some old panty hose to scoop it up. But, everytime I scooped some up, I'd have to go rinse it off, come back and do it again, because whatever was on the panty hose would go back into the water if I tried to scoop up anything more. I did this about thirty times before I got it all out. Then, I had to take out all of their river rocks and glass rocks, because I didn't know where anymore of the glass from the bulb was. I did find more glass by doing this. Had to wear gloves too. Got forbid I should cut myself, and get salmonella, and then give my turtles some sickness from being exposed to my blood.
Then I did my most favorite thing in the whole wide world! (sarcasm) I have a gravel-vac, which, can only be powered apparently by sucking on the opposite end of the tube with my mouth (OMG algae turtle pee water tastes so bad) in order to suck up all of the poop and food particles on the bottom of the tank. Yes, I do this once a week. I try very hard not to get their water in my mouth, but, as many times as it's happened to me, I always spit it out of course, and I've never gotten sick.
So, after that, I cleaned off their tank accessories, like their tunnel, seashells, rocks and plants, refilled the tank (I only changed half of the water), put their stuff back, and put the turtles back. They are acting normal, I tried to keep it as routine as possible so they'd think it was just another tank cleaning with a weird mishap, rather than something scary. Had to hold Typhoon for a little while though, cause of the two of them, she spooks easy.
Anyone know how to get a broken light bulb out of a light socket without using a potato?
