Most RES are cheap on any website you go to. It's the shipping that costs the most. Most shipping for turtles range from $25 to $50 because of the shipping method and type of packaging.

That is not a trusted site. I've heard a lot of people on this forum talk against them.

worldpeace: I have heard this too. Most people have talked about getting sick turtles or just unhealthy turtles in general which have ended up dying a few days later. In any event, this site does NOT advocate these websites.

Plus it's just common sense, if the deal seems too good to be true it probably is!

My guess is that they are breeding their turtles non stop and that's why they can sell them so cheap, cuz they can produce so many in little time. This is also the reason why most of them are sick as, with most animal breeding, you have to give the females at least a few months to recuperate before breeding them again. You can add to this an enclosure with horrible conditions...and there you have a bunch of sick baby turtles.

I've read something like this on another forum and there was a link to an actual "turtle farm" and the people running it were actually bragging about some of the things I mentioned above. There were pictures of baby turtles kept about 100 in a 10 gallon bucket of water. I'm going to see if I can find the website again and maybe I'll post it here.

Also, think about it this way, you buy 1 turtle, they send you 3. The likelihood of one of them surviving is better than if you only received one to begin with. Terrible sales practice ...
