Do RES need both?
If so what are the benefits of having both or only having one or the other?? :?:

Thanx

The UV is to help them regulate body temp, matbolize food and maintain healthy shell. The heater maintains water temp and helps with their body temp and helps keep them health.

I read your getting baby turtles so the uv is very important. Id say even more important then the heater but still the heater is important. Without the uv light it is easy for there shell to get a umber of deformities. Even though there taking in calcium the uv helps them to absorb it and harden there shell so your babies could stay soft with out it and they usuaslly die. Also it keeps there colors brighter.

The heater helps maintain the water temp because rising and falling temps on baby turtles is very stressful and can cause them to get sick.

Your turtles need UV light in order to metabolize calcium. If they don't have it, the calcium won't get absorbed. If the turtles are kept outside, they get UV rays from the sun and obviously a light isn't needed.

I personally do not use a water heater because the room I keep him in is actually warm. The water temperature is always about 76 degrees. I do have one for the winter though in case it gets cold inside.

You should read the basic care section so you see what temperature the turtles need. (Remember, they are cold blooded).

Turtles are exothermic, meaning they don't make their own body heat. If the room your tank is in is constantly above 78 degrees then I wouldn't worry about a water heater, but otherwise you'll need one.

A UV lamp is installed to replicate the rays of the sun for your indoor turtle. The lamp and heater are in different categories, and in most cases, both are necessary. If it is a financial decision, go with the UV lamp.

In the Philpines you may not need a heater, but in colder areas they are an absolute must.
