my tank is 4foot long, 1foot deep, 15inches high, with the water 10inches high. Surley this is big enough for an adult turtle, I couldnt get a bigger tank in my front room!!

No, thats less than 50 gallons. For a full grown RES You'll need at least 100G. 125 would be better though.

My 5 inch turtle can't live in my tank and its 48/16/16.

That tank is roughly big enough for a 2.5" long turtle. That goes for shell length, measuring the top (carapace), not including the curve.

Full grown turtles range from 7-9" for males and 9-12" for females. Basically, your tank is not large enough for a full grown turtle.

That particular 4 foot tank wouldn't be big enough, but there are 4 foot tanks out there that would be be enough for a fully grown adult. My favourite size of tank is a 4'x2'x2' 120 gallon tank. It's a big tank, but still fits in a 4' space.

i think its plenty big enough, i know its maybe a bit narrow. Anyway maybe some day ill get a bigger tank, how big is a 100gal then, 6foot!!?

Yep the common 100 gallon is 6ft long.

In my opinion 75 gallon is good enough for one adult, especially a male.

125 gallons are 6' long.Most tanks in the 4' range are 55,75,90,110.
