Urgent Care :: black spots getting worst.

I posted before about what I thought was shell rot, and I took my turtle, theodore, to the vet here and hes not specialiszed in turtles but he did look them up and do some research and he said it didnt look like it was anything to worry about but he said to watch it and and I thought maybe I could post some more pictures on here and see if anyone could help and tell me if this is shell rot.

it looks like its starting to spread to the other side a little bit and its starting to turn a little white too.

Is the area soft? Smell? Does your turtle react differently when touched in that area?

yes he does squirm more when I touch the black part of his shell, and it doesnt feel soft just kind of slimey, he doesnt seem to have an odor.

We have had a few hatchlings on this site with something similar, but I don't really recall a treatment or specific condition. If it doesn't smell or isn't soft, then it's not likely the standard shell-rot type of infection.

Awww.. very cute baby YBS.. For me, general view.. the shell looks fine. Maybe your baby is ready to shedding or something else.. Just wait and see then. Anyway very cute baby you have there..

That is probably a fungal or bacterial infection, or shedding.

I am not totally sure, but I think these are gotten rid of by scrubbing the shell gently with betadine and a toothbrush. They hate it, because you are touching their super important shell, but it doesn't hurt them, or anything like that.

thanks ill try the bedatine and scrub their shells a little but lightly and see if this helps any.

IF the shell has a slimy feel to it, it's often a layer of bacteria on the shell (which would be good to wipe off).

I can't remember if you've said this somewhere, but what size tank is the turtle in, how much water is in it, and what kind of filtration is being used? Is there proper lighting and does the turtle bask?

It did feel a little bit slimy, but i do not think its anything to worry about now because both of their shells have slightly changed like color wise, and we have a 55 gallon tank and we use a fluval filter for it, and we have both a heat lamp and a uvb light for the turtles and they do both bask so im sure its nothing to worry about now, but thank you so much, and I will wipe down their shells (:
