Well I just bought a Fluval 404 from someone on craigslist. I couldn't get it started so I filled it up with water (no where in the instructions does it say to do that) and finally got it to start pumping, but it's been over 20 minutes now and there are still bubbles coming out of the outtake hose and the filter is still running noisey. Is this normal until it pumps all the air out or has it been too long? Someone please help.
20 min seems a bit long for air to still be continuously coming out of the filter. You need to check for possible air leaks. Could be in the tubing, or most likely where the top seals to the bottom of the canister.
After you check those and nothing, then you just need to shake it a few times to rock out the airbubbles and then they should all come out.
