Put in a pleco, they are darker colored and may not entice your turtle's appitite.

however, i had 2 plecos and my turtle ate them. One after 8 months, one after 8 hours. so really... it could happen.

If you have a lid on your tank, some cichlids do well. I've kept two convicts with my turtles for some time. They're way too fast for the turtles, and now the turtles just completely ignore them (even if they're swimming right in front of their face).

i keep a crayfish that eats waste voraciously, he has an area in a dead zone in my tank that my turtle cant reach cause she's too big and the crayfish is always faster during the retreat when he ventures out, now the turtle ignores him and now im worrying about the crayfish getting out cause he's always sitting on my atba ramp

My convict that lived with my turtle has vanished. Ok, he was eaten. Stripes was definatly fast, but Sassamo out smarted him and had lunch.
So and fish, even plecos and cichlids will become a snack.
My favorite things in the world:
1 res, 3 cats, 3 bunnies, 1 dog, 2 african clawed frogs, guppies, pleco, 30+ fancy mice, 2 hermit crabs and 4 small humans

The key to fish in with a res is hiding places. Pleco are mostly nocturnal so they need somewhere to hide during the day. I've had two pleco in with Herc, one for nine months now (the pleco is now larger than Herc is) and one for three months. There was a third but he... disappeared....

I also have half a dozen Siamensis (Siamese algae eaters) in there to eat stray algae and a couple of "feeder" goldfish that managed to get away and eke out a decent life staying out of Herc's way.

But again, that's only possible because they have many places to hide.

I wouldnt put any fish in if you plan on keeping them. I feel if a turtle gets bored enough it will go after the fish, no matter how long its been in there.

Well, not all fish end up cleaning the tank. Some, end up making it worse,by their waste.Depending on the fish,it might make your tank a little worse.

I used to have a bunch of cichlids, guppies and minnows that lived with my turtles. They managed to survive the turtles for quite a while, but a whole lot of them died when I switched to a bigger setup recently.
Now, I've only got one of each. I'm gonna wait a while before I get anymore. I think my tank's still doing a mini-cycle.
