Habitat - Indoor :: 2 res together?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

So, I guess my main question would be...what is everyone's take on two res together? Do they ever get along? Do they get along for a while and then need to be separated? Is it a 50/50 deal...or is it pretty much just keep one? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

How big is the tank. yeah it pretty much is a 50/50 deal. they usually are kept in a tank by themselves. if the tank is big enough they might get along if they have enough space to themselves.

with a tank like that in size, you could see about getting a tank divider, keep them in the same tank but they'll be separated as well.

so 75 gallons split in two would provide enough space for both of them if necessary, until a larger tank once they grow a bit more?

Yeah it should, that'll be 37 and a half gallons each. My 5 inch is still in a 30 gallon for now, so both of yours would have one up on mine lol

If you haven't gotten your turtles yet, I'd strongly advise you to only get one.
Later on, if you'd like to spend the money and devote the space to a second set up, think about getting a second RES then. It's much easier and less stressful to plan for a second set up than to have to splurge in the middle of a turtle fight and separate them.
For the most part, two RES rarely get along in the same tank together, they're just too aggressive as a species. One turtle usually decides they've had it with the other one and would appreciate having the tank all to themselves. Unfortunately, they don't seem to realize, that it's not nature, and that second turtle can't up and leave which intensifies the aggression until one is seriously hurt or dead.

thanks for the insight meg...it certainly makes sense...but what about for someone who already has the two? is a divider a bad thing while they are still small for a while? or should a whole new setup be done?

A divider will work, as long as they don't have access to one another. Now, you can try it out and see if they can live together peacefully, but watch them carefully and if you see any signs of aggression, toss in the divider and another basking area.

thanks smurf...i think what's best for the turtle is most important...so if they can coexist peacefully...great...if not I will get a divider...actually I will get a divider anyway so it can be implemented right away just in case...and I'll keep my eyes on any signs of aggression
