Hm, Big Al's carries their own brand of filter media. They have filter floss -- 20 Sq.Ft for $8.99

Actually, I have! I noticed even just a day after putting it in the water looks clearer!

14.99 in Canada, + 5 shipping, but I'll consider it next time

I'm just kind of miffed at BigAls since the prices on the Canadian site are about 2x the prices on the American site.

Gotta hate the price differences between Canada and the US. I mean in a lot of ways we are such a similar group of people. I should know I'm a Canadian that moved to the US to marry an American. :twisted:

BullDog yr ingenuity inspired me with my own filter setup. granted i didn't get an A/C filter, i just got a huge bag of some other brand of tank filter and cut it to fit. the point is i looked 'outside the box' of my typical just-get-the-same-brand-over-and-over shopping style.

I find that the pet supply industry where I live is pretty lame, except for cats and dogs, so I end up improvising a lot

I generally use batting from your local fabric store for this type of filtration.

Batting is a good idea!

I switched Ralph's filter, which gave me a good opportunity to have a look at how it was working. It did exactly what I wanted it to! It kept the big junk out of the upper baskets. So I put some in his new filter too
