Urgent Care :: TURTL LOST IN THE HOUSE!!!

I've been bringing my female turtle (about 8in diameter) outside with me while I do yard work and she's been burrowing in the ground (what's that all about?). This morning she went missing in the house and I still can't find her (been 12 hours). How long can she go without food and water? I will resume my search in the morning but I'm very worried. Thanks.

We've found in the past that turtles lost in the house turn up in the most unlikely places. They can squeeze into tight places - behind cabinets, under furniture - and go under clothing and in the back of closets. Look EVERYWHERE, even when you think she couldn't possibly fit. Be sure the dogs and cats are confined where they can't get her. Don't give up.

She'll be ok for a while without food or water. You can try putting a shallow dish of water in a location where you think she might be as the smell may attract her.

As horrible as this sounds, I lost Sisqo a few years back (6 actually) he was gone for 2 weeks. My cat found him... she head him scratching teh carpet under a recliner. If it wasn't for her (whom I affectionately call she devil) I would never have found him.

I'm not saying its ok for them to be lost so long, just trying to show that Sisqo was fine even after ebing without food and water for two weeks. So maybe that will help you worry less. She'll turn up, probably when you stop looking.

i kno my guy escaped when i was on vacation. but luckily my brother found him hiding under the couch not too far away, the closest, darkest cavelike place he could find

Thanks to all for the info. When I woke up this morning she was on the floor next to my bed. All is ok. She has been restless for the past week or so and is frantic until I put her outside, maybe she does want to lay eggs. Today, I prepared a 4'x6' sand box that I have with dirt, lots of grass & other greenery, covered a corner for shade and added a 2'x3' low plastic bin with water & rocks. Hopefully this will be a safe haven for her need to be outside & dig without getting lost. Thanks again, great site!
