I have the marineland stealth heater. Its black.
I just went inside my room and noticed that my RES pushed the tip of the heater above water, now it has like bumps on the tip, kind of like bubbles. I think the cover of the heater (the black part) is swelling. It is still working. What should I do? has this happened to someone else here?

Are you sure it is swelling?

I have never heard of this, but then again I don't have a stealth heater.

I don't think there should be any problems with the heateer and in the future just keep it much below the surface so that it cannot be pushed up to the surface. Maybe horizontal position will be your best bet.

Please do not double post. I'm removing your other post--anyone who wants to respond can do so here.

I had asked you in the other thread if the plastic itself was bumpy. Stealth heaters are supposed to have an automatic shut-off in case for some reason the heater is taken out of the water (but always unplug it bfore doing so). I don't quite understand how the heater could be swelling...

Is it warm where you are today (if you're in NY, I think is probably is)? If so, is a heater needed in the tank? If the water temp is warm enough without the heater, you could take it out. If you think something's wrong with the heater, you could test it in another container of water.

Sorry for the double posting.
The heater has bumps I guess its the outer layer the part that covers the heater itself. Yeah Im in NY. Didnt know I could go with out a heater on hot days, I thought the water temp would drop too low. The heater is working. I was just afraid it would explode or something lol. But the outer layer seems pretty strong. Thank you everyone.

If the coating of the heater seems damaged in any way i would be a little concerned using it. They do have the auto shut-off feature, but if the bottom of the heater was out of the water while the top part was still submerged, it may not have activated.

Have them replace it immediately (it should have a lifetime warranty). I have had a Stealth become defective (thermostat broken) and you should never use any defective equipment in your tank.
