Quick question. I am custom building a basking area
and was wondering if its safe to use a glue gun? I'd
just be using a very small amount, and will not be
in the water.

If it's not in the water, then it's find.
However, I've found that in the long run, aquarium silicon holds much better than glue gun :)

Also be wary of it being under the heat lamp. Aquarium silicon looks and acts like a glue gun, but doesn't melt under the temps. It's cheap and it's at hardware stores.

Good point.

The stuff I had originally glue gunned was under the basking lights, and it became somewhat brittle, and ended up losing it's "sticking properties". That's why I switched to the silicon :D
It did last about a year and a half though, so that's not too bad.
