ok so my tank is about 50% done. i still need to set up the filter and declorinate the water and also get thermometers to check the water temp. its really bare because i've been rushing to get it ready for the turt. i'll worry about decor later.

right now the water heater is on the bottom but i think im gonna stick it on the side. i have no idea if it is working right now because i dont have a thermomatere for the water yet but it does seem to heat the water. im going to buy a stealth one probably right after i get gaia in the tank. but of course i'll buy one sooner if this one doesnt heat it well enough. right now im just making sure it is livable for her and after she is here and settled i'll work on upgrades.

im gonna keep updating photos in here kind of like a tank journal. so what do u think? very minimalist aint it? :P

Very nice looking tank and stand! Looks good so far, but why aren't you adding more water to the tank?

That's a nice looking tank and stand! What size is it?
Thermometer is definiatly something you'll need asap. Even the kind you stick on the side of the tank would be helpful to give you a ballpark range of the water temp.
My only other comment is make sure the heater is OK to be fully submerged like that. I know many heaters (like the ones I have) are only meant to be submerged up to a certain point :)

Both tank heaters that I have gotten are fully submergeable, I didn't know they make ones that weren't.

Oh, and nice tank! Good luck with the setup!

loB -- You may want to consider putting about 3 or 4 more inches of water in the tank. That looks like a glass heater. Make sure that it is secure as they get broken very easily. Tank is looking good. You still have a little work to do.

It looks good, so far. (Add some green, as in plants.)

its a 55 gal tank and thats the heater that came with it.im only using that heater until i can get a stealth.its going to be stuck on the side of the tank as soon as i get to movin it. im going to stick the thermometer on the tank tonight when i set up the filter.

i was thinking of adding more water but i was afraid of the turtle getting out. but i do have a cover on it so i guess i dont have to worry about that. but i also dont want the basking area to be to close to the lamp for gaia. the area is staying around 86 right now. i'll check the temp near the light and near the land after i add more water to see if its ok.

and im definately going to be adding some greenery. im thinkin some kind of cave that she coudl hide in and maybe some of that fake ocean grass like stuff.

Personally, i'd fill the tank almost to the top and get a string/hook system for the lamp to make it stay higher. And then get a screen lid for it.

Gives him tons more swimming room to enjoy, and looks better IMO.

oh and the peice of paper is to mark the water level. it is always really warm up here and i wanna keep track of evaporation. oh and i wanted to ask, can the air temp be too hot for them?

Lob -- Make sure your turtle can not get out. They have a nack of getting into and out of places they are not supposed to.

I have to ask about the lid, are your lamps shining through some kind of mesh? If so, you may need to modify it a bit underneath the uvb lamp, as mesh smaller than 1/2 inch or so can filter out too much of the uvb rays. You can use wire cutters to snip an opening for light to pass through.
