Feeding and Nutrition :: Calcium in the form of cuttlebone....

So I got some cuttlebone for the turltes as per the info around the web and here, put a peice in each tank the size of their heads... well in about an hour they both ate it all... thought they were supposed to nibble at it over a period of time.. should I put more in untill they dont eat it all?

They must have been really hungry for calcium!

Why don't you give them another head sized piece every day. Eventually they will get saturated and slow down.

Sometimes my turtle eats a lot of cuttlebone and sometimes hardly any. I thought he had outgrown the need for large amounts of it but this past week he's really been packing it away. He's finishing a head sized piece in about three days, which is a lot for him. Maybe he just likes the taste.

Well it might have had somthing to do with the fact they never, ever had it before.....

I say give him as much as he likes......I try to keep 5-6 pieces floating around in the tank for my two girls. Sometimes they ignore it, sometimes it's gone in minutes!

I leave the whole peice in normally if they want it they want it if not they don't mess with it.
