Hi my name is bascomb. I have had sliders for over 30 years. I have res, yellow bellies and painted. I have the painted and res together and they :D do just fine. I live in the mountains that border North Carolina and Tennessee. I live alone, not including my turtles, and will retire soon. I have had good success doing it my way. The only thing that I do differently is that I recommend a greater water flow than most. I turn my water in my tanks at least 5 times per hour. I have one that turns the tank about 10 times per hour. You have to be careful to not turn your tanks into a blender. OPPS -- Not here - bascomb

Hi and Welcome! It's nice to have an experienced keeper join the ranks. I don't understand what you meant by turn your water, though. Could you explain it?

What are you turtles names? What are their setups like?

What I mean when I said turn your water -- whatever the amount that you have in your tank exchange it 5 times per hour. That is more than most but it works fine for me. One of my tanks is a 29-gallon and I use a 350gph pump. It stirs the tank a little but it does wonders for my biological filter. It is tied to a bottom filter that sucks from beneath using the bottom strata as additional biological filter. I will be glad to explain the plumbing if anyone is interested.

Boy, alone in the mountains with only turtles for company...right now after getting off work deling with jerks all day, coming home to a kitchen full of dirty dishes courtesy of my roomate, that sounds absolutely perfect. I'm jealous, i love the mountains. You should put up some pictures if you have a digital camera! And welcome to the forum, of course :D

oct girl -- I will put up some pictures of the mountains that my house is on as soon as I can high speed and get a little more aggressive with my computer. I am one of the few that have a computer in these mountains. -- You can get another job and another roomate if things get too bad. Life is too short to put up with that. Good Luck. b.
