Habitat - Indoor :: Thermometer fury!

Okay today is my 2nd thermometer to break in the last 2 weeks
I use those glass ones
And frankly the glass is too weak

Anyone recomend a good thermometer that not going to break on me

get a digital one. it's the safest choice with those little whirlwinds living in there with a thermometer to poke at all day.

I don't keep my thermometer in Serra's tank 24/7 I just pull it out and place it in Serra's tank to check the temp whenever I pass by.

The digital thermometers with probes are the best ones. They are a lot more accurate too. You can get them online for like five bucks. Just place the probe wherever you want it and tape the actual read out part to the outside. That's what I use.

Can I use a digital cooking thermometer in my tank?

You could probably use it to check the temp (as long as it was clean) but I wouldn't leave it in there. Those things are pretty sharp sometimes.

Check out one of the "stick on" thermometers for the outside of the tank. I have found these to be a good way to check the tank quickly, at a glance, and then you don't need to have a thermometer in the tank all the time. I only occasionally check the water temp with a glass thermometer, then take the thermometer out of the tank & wash it for next time (I never leave it in the tank). So far so good....every time I check the temp, it is always the same as the stick-on thermometer on the outside of the tank.

Stick on thermometer costs less than $2.

I like the stick on as backup. They're generally reliable, but can be slightly inaccurate in very warm or cold rooms. I've noticed some inconsistencies with my digital thermometer as well, but not by much.

That's why I have a backup thermometer as I mentioned in my post. I just don't leave the "backup" thermometer in the tank all the time because I know my big phat Sheba (aka "The Bulldozer", "Bruiser", or "Tonya Harding") would run it over & eat it.

I have a sticky thermometer too, only because it came with the tank, and it's usually 2-4 degrees off, so I rarely ever look at it. I have my digital probe thermometer on all the time and a glass thermometer with a suction cup for the water.

I got a digital thermometer from Petco for $9.00 and it works great. That was the least expensive one they had.
