After I set up the filter do I need to wait a while before I put my turtle in the tank?

You should at least wait until the water temperature is in the mid 70's before putting your turtle in it. I usually run the filter while I'm waiting for the water to heat up usually overnight. The filter helps circulate the water and gets the tank water evenly heated more quickly.

I had to cool my water down because it was at 84 degrees!
