I just got back from Petco. Huge variety of (real) plants. The employee suggested that I not get them because the turtles would just end up eating them and making a mess. I ended up with a huge fake plant but still want to try the real ones.. What do you guys think?
Yes they may very well make a mess with the plants, just like they do when they eat greens (at least mine does!). But they are good for them. It's really up to you on wether to try them or not if the mess worries you. It's nothing you can't scoop out with a net or that your filter won't help clean it up.

No idea. I'm thinking he might have been sick before I got her. I made a new post about her. Maybe someone can help me solve the puzzle. I have one RES. I can't lose him too. I've grown so attached
i bought a achahis plant i think its spelled and it made my tank extremmly dirty and it left a film on the top off my water?? Kinda look like oil what should i do??
Did you rinse the anachris off before you put it in the tank? Some of the places I've seen aquatic plants sold sometimes don't have it in very clean-looking water (and even if it did look clean, it should be rinsed). I rinse the strands under running water after I buy it and keep most of them in a separate tank of clean water, giving one (usually) to my RES at a time.

I just received an order of anacharis and water lettuce from a vendor on ebay and they gave me a ton of the stuff! I put it all in a wash tub with room temperature water and rinsed it all several times. I think there is probably some die-off whether it be the plant shedding dead cells or bacteria or algae on the leaves that die off during shipping. It's always a good idea to thoroughly rinse of anything before adding it to your aquarium, but as long as your filter is working properly it shouldn't be too big a problem. If you're worried, make sure to run some fresh carbon in your filter.
