Hello,

My name is Siko Alpar and I have 2 turtles. Marcina, female and Feri, male. I am from Transylvania (Europe, Romania) and people keep turtles just because they can by them. Not all of them, but a lot, so they are in very pour condition when they want to get rid of them (space problems, or they are bored). That is hove I got them. I was staying in a village for a few years and had a lot of animals, some species of frogs, snakes, 1 wolf, 1 fox, 4 dears, 2 stags... was also active in "dog education", training, have a dog, 9 years old. I am the only one in the family who is not a wet. If somebody found an injured animal or the parents were shot. I usually kept them until they found a home or could be released again. My hobby is more insects, spiders...I also collect sculls and fossil.
Turtles are god pets because if you have a god enclosure you can leave them for 2 weaks (I feed them fish, non exotic ones, so they are 10 times the size of a guppy and they are very god in catching them, if they are full, they don't hunt anymore).
I am a tourist guide, so I am a lot away and it can happen that I can't answer or write for a longer period.

Hope you had patience to read all of this, and I'll get some answers to a few questions.

Greetings Siko and welcome to the Forum! Sounds like you lead a very fascinating life! I envy your getting to work with so many diverse animals. In this country you would be known as a wildlife rehabilitator (rehabber). Do you still do that kind of work?

We'd love to see photos of your turtles and where they live. You didn't mention, but are your turtles' red earred sliders? Another person just joined on here who is from Portugal and he has a 90 year old European Pond Turtle as well as three grown red earred sliders.

By the way, your English is very good!

Thanks for the compliment. I had to give up working with animals it was a hobby not a work, since a few years I am a city inhabitant and had to live even my dog at my parents, because there he has a huge garden all for himself. Actually my father is the one who was known, I just helped, he organised after the communism the first association for protecting animals.
I work in truism as a guide and as a translator/interpret, but not for English . My only contact with wild animals is when I organise a tour for people to take pictures of bears.
My turtles are fine, until a few month ago they were in .... not nice condition. I would like to add a few pictures, but I didn't figured out how (yet).

Welcome to the site, there are so many great people here with great people!
I love your part of the world. I was there a few years ago, and just loved the county, the people and of course all the stories of Prince Vlad!

Your pictures are terrific! Little Marcina and Feri look healthy. They certainly are curious about you and your camera!

You could put a lot more water in that tank. RES love to swim and dive.

The tank is not ready jet. I am not at home. And did not want to fill it completely because I made it a few weeks ago and the table is not ready jet, when I come home I will put in the room on the table and fill it completely afterwards (50-60 cm water depth is OK?). Then I will think about a different kind of basking area. They like floating roots a lot. They were used by their owners to be fed in the tank and if I approach them, they are begging a lot (I hate that, it is not worthy of a free animal). When I was at home and I put them outside the tank, to explore, they sometimes came to me and wait to get some food!
