Habitat - Indoor :: new lamp and bulb question

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I asked a few days ago about getting a deep enough fixture to hold a t-rex mvb, my thanks to the people that helped me out with that. I ended up with a basic brooder lamp from home depot, with a porcelain fixture, rated for 300 watts. I'm using the 100 watt flood bulb. I hooked it up and within a few minutes started noticing an odd smell, sort of a noxious chemical smell, not really like burning. There's nothing near the lamp that could be burning. I'm assuming it's because the stuff is brand new and will wear off, but should I get my turtle out of the enclosure while it airs out? Would it do any good to unplug the fixture and wipe it down? And if I'm wrong and this really shouldn't be happening, please let me know!

Yea it's probably just oils or dust burning off. You may want to raise the lamp so it's high enough above the tub so the turtle is not breathing the fumes.

Okay, good to hear. It's a gorgeous day so I'm taking him out for a bit and running some fans over the enclosure for now. Thank you!
