Hey Guys,

My tank started to recently get algae I think it started after getting my UVB Bulb so I purchased all the available filters for the canister, but realized I don't know how to stack them of if it even supports all the filters.

I purchased about 3 of each of these bags, but I only put in the Stars Phos zorb Biochem zorb Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Phos Zorb
Bio Stars
Zeolite
Nitra-Zorb
Super Carbon
BioChem Zorb

Thanks for the reply, but my filter is not listed and I have read similar in the instructions book. It also doesn't list how to use lots of media and if you can stack it or it needs to be separated by dividers or if it is even recommended. Also still not sure about the redundancy of using all of them.

The Filstar XL-M has 2 baskets which hold 1 liter of media each. Filter media will not stop algae, reduce the lighting time and they algae should die back

thanks for the info. the Xp m is too small to fit I tried and it had no flow and I got more algae than before I added a light timer to handle the light and added a gfo reactor. it still needs a lot of work though water is cloudy now hoping it will clear up.

How many gallons of water in your tank and what is your nitrate level?

Is the tank getting direct sunlight? I have never had a uvb bulb cause algae.

I agree with Kansasslider. Odds are the filter is underpowered for the turtle and the nitrates are high and/or direct sunlight.

I have a 20 gallon tank the water has cleared up now and looks ok I don't really know how to test the nitrate levels I bought a test kit, but I don't think it's very useful I need to get a digital one, but they are kind of expensive and I rather put the money into other upgrades first. The tank can get direct sunlight and I have left it open so the turtles can have some natural light at times however I have been doing it less because of the algae growth. I also took out the rocks because the turtles were trying to eat them or chew on them. I also noticed the turtles are probably eating their poop because the bottom always seems to be clean. The algae seems to be going away I think I noticed a little bit in there, but nothing like before the GFO reactor. I also dont know if the UV light is the cause I just figured it was because I didn't have that problem in the beginning.

I would guess it was from sunlight. Test kits are real easy to use. Why do you say its not useful?

You should set your light timer to what it does in your area. If its light at 7am that's when your lights should turn on. Same for Sunset. Just like nature.
