We're thinking about buying a Fluval U4 filter to work alongside our Aqueon 55.
We have a 55 gallon tank filled with about 50 gallons, and we have a 4.5 inch RES.
The Aqueon is doing a good job, but we want a second filter to help out with the other side of the tank.
Does anybody have experience, good or bad, with the U4?

My advice is that if it's not broken, don't try to fix it. Meaning if the one filter does a good job, leave things the way they are. also you may have to upgrade to a larger tank at some point, so just buy the permanent (larger) filter at that point.

i had a u2...did not suck debris much...the water current was strong...but pointless if it didnt suck in tiny debris.... i only have a 10 gallon tank...the u2 was rated up to 30 gallons i think

many people talk about this dilemma ... and i spent hours reading etc... prior to buy a 3rd filter

1.get a filter with easy access to clean the cartridges
2. enough power to suck in the dirt...'5x rule'
does not matter if the filter is way too powerful because your turtle needs to swim anyways... so its good exercise for it. [if money can buy]

Marineland penguins200 or anything higher than that ... i was amazed at the quality of the water, how clean it was, and how much dirt i was able to retain in the filter... amazing..+ its super easy to keep it clean.... and does not need much work. the cartridges can be reused if you clean them every other week...

if the filter is inside the tank.. it is a messy job to clean it and etc... plus the fluvals sponges are not thaaaat great
what happens is that the dirty gets dissolved in the canister while it is filtering and...uff... i had my bad experiences w/ submersible filters...
