Lighting: Hood vs. Lamps

I upgraded to a 55 gallon tank and I have two clamp lamps that I thought I could make work.

Recently they arent sitting the right way and I just think a hood would be better for my RES.

I want to make sure she gets all the proper amounts of UVA/UVB.

I've seen plenty of pics here and it seems like most people use lamps over hoods.

Would a hood be a step in the right or wrong direction? Will ny RES still get equal amounts of UVA/UVB? Current Setup Below:

thank you in advance.

I think it depends on your setup. Will it get in the way of any cables or the basking area? It's really up to what is most convenient for you.

The lamps were prefect when I had a smaller setup. Now that I have a larger tank and an actual tank, the clamp lamps dont seem to be at the right angles.

I was thinking the hood would put me at ease.

I dont like that lamps dont light up the whole tank since their directed right at basking area, if you have a large tank its very dark. I use hoods so the whole tank gets light.

Also to answer your question yes they get same amount of uv.

I'd go with a mercury vapor bulb, which should take care of your lighting needs. For much bigger tanks, I use a regular floor lamp on the opposite end of the tank to provide more light.
