I don't know which to get. I put it about 8 inches away from the basking platform. Can anyone tell me the difference?

I think most users on the forums use the 5.0 because the 10.0 is for desert creatures. Then again I use a MVB so I wouldn't know, the MVB makes it much simpler for me.

Is this a tube or a compact flourescent? Does the fixture have a reflective backing? If it's a tube and the fixture doesn't have a reflective backing (no aluminum/silver), the 5.0 can be 6 - 8 inches from the basking turtle. I'd put a new 10.0 tube with the same kind of fixture 8 - 10 inches away.

A reflective backing will intensify the strength of the the UVB rays.

This is a tube with a reflective backing.

While new, I'd put it 10 - 12 inches away. As it nears the time to replace it, you could move it a few inches closer.
