Equipment Review and Discussion :: Sting Ray Filter?

Hello! I'm new to this forum and I currently have a baby RES, approximately 2 inches, in a 20 gallon tank with a heat light, and a fluorescent/UVA/UVB light. I need to get a filter, and I was wondering if anyone used this sting ray filter before and if you would recommend it or not. Thanks!

Hi. I've never heard of it, and frankly it reminds me of the head of Darth Vader . I looked at the first two links you have. It is an underwater filter, which means it will take up space in your tank. Just curious, but why would you consider a filter that's rated for less than the size of your tank (I think I read the biggest one was for a tank up to 15 gallons and you said yours was 20 gallons).

When getting a filter for a turtle tank, think more powerful rather than less--they are much messier than fish. Ideally, you want a filter that's rated for at least 3X the size of your tank. A 20-gallon tank limits your options. If I were you, since your turtle is already 2 inches (this is the shell from the scute behind the head down the back to the tail without the curve?) and will grow, the tank size is already at the limit for his size (think 10 gallons of tank per inch of shell length), I'd look into upgrading his tank size and then get a filter appropriate for that one.

we have one of them.. and well our water was turning green a lot .. i would save the money and get something better

I was going to get these as back up filters but the size is huge and the GPH low.

I had them. I had one for each of my tanks when Michelangelo was in a smaller tank.

I really didn't care for them too much. In all honesty that would only suck up his floating food and then it would get stuck in the filter and you'd have to clean it all the time. It never really filtered out the waste or anything like that. And it always created this film on top of the water.

For a filter, since I too have a 20 gallon tank. I got a Tetra Whisper Power Filter rated for a 30-60 gallon tank. I love it. And it works wonders and it also lets you know when you need to change the filter by how much water comes out of the suction piece (when it starts to drip water you know it's time to change)

Plus it creates these nice waterfalls and my turtle will just sit under them and let them massage his shell or he'll eat the bubbles they create so it then replaces the want for a bubble wall!

So I suggest that.

I have a Stingray 20 gallon in a 10 gallon tank with 12 guppies. In one week my whole rec room stank. It is garbage.
