Ok, I just had to put my thoughts into words. Got my FX5 delivered today. This thing is HUGE!!! I never imagined it would be so big! It's bigger than both of my 304s put together. I'm surprised no one has mentioned on here (that I have seen) how freaking huge this beast is. Can't wait to fill it up with media (if I even have enough media to fill this thing!) and try it out.

I was amazed by the size of my Rena XP3, and I know the XP4 has another canister built on, and the FX5 I've seen in pictures looks huge on its own. I remember when my filter arrived here in the shipping box, I thought my husband was going to faint!

Melt-pork -- The FX5 is big. However, that is where most folks fall short in setting up an aquarium. Turtles need a lot more water exchange than fish. The recommendation is 5 times turn over per hour. I always exceed that with as much as 10 or 12 times per hour. Most of my tanks have a little swirl in the water and they stay clean. You will not regret buying the FX5, just make sure that the suction has a grate so your little friends don't get stuck to it. Good Luck! b.

Thanks! My current filter is a Fluval 304, which is not large enough for the 55g tank I have now. It works great for fish in a 55g, but not a turtle, which is why I'm excited to finally have the FX5. I'm going to be using it for my new 120g tank, which I am getting on the 21st. I can't wait to try it out!

Did you get it yet? It has a nice big instruction manual that has a page about where to put the media (page EN-13).

Here's a quick summary:
Top basket = pre-filter, with the option of adding carbon, and/or zeo carb
Middle basket = carbon, ammonia remover, or other chemical media, with the option of adding bio media
Bottm basket = bio media, with the option of adding a water polishing pad

You can do whatever you want, but the basic idea is that the top basket is mechanical, the middle is chemical, and the bottom is biological.
