I have a Rena XP3 in my 75 gallon tank. The problem is the output on it sits near the top of the tank and my turtle has trouble eating because it quickly pushes the food to the intake. Now I do have a valve in the output so I can turn it off during feeding, but another issue is that its not fully pushing waste to the other side of the tank. A lot of the waste sinks to the bottom and the filter doesn't catch it.

My question is if there is a way to extend my output to where it sits a few inches above the bottom of my tank. I've used up all the extensions that came with the filter and am puzzled if there is a DIY solution to my problem?

You can buy all of the pieces and parts you need for the filter there, including more tubing. Otherwise, you can DIY it from the hardware store. You just need to find the right fittings to work. You could also try a flexible plastic tube that you just add on to the output. I don't know if the flow will be too strong, though.

I actually went to Loews today and made a $6 fix to the problem. It only require three elbows, some connectors, zip ties, and pipe.

I might have to shorten the pipe a bit though, it's kicking up a bit of sand.

Sweet outlet! Nice job. I might have to do something like this for my Fluval 404 because I don't like the jet nozzle they give.

Looks nice. I'm not sure how big your turtle is relative the space between the pipe and tank, but you need to keep an eye on it. I'm currently in favor of the flexible tubing type of stuff.

Thanks steve. The pipe is a bit too big for the suction cups so if the turtle wedges between the pipe and the wall the pipe will disconnect from the suction cups. So he can't get stuck if that makes sense.
