Last week I got a new filter it is an internal filter that has mechanical and chemical filtration. It says the foam pad is for both mechinical and biologicalfiltration. I dont trust that and want to swich the chemical media to biological. What type should i buy :?:

The foam can serve as a very effective biofilter as long as you clean it carefully. Never rinse it under tap water, only tank water, and never let it dry out. That being said, if you're going to replace some of the chemical media for biological, pretty much any kind is good. I like ceramic rings, they don't float so they stay put, and they don't compact, allowing for maximum water flow. What kind of filter is it, and how big is the tank?
