I had the fluval 4plus for the longest time. It did a great job with smaller tanks, had great output, it kept the tanks crystal clear. I put it in my 55 gallon in conjunction with a HOB filter and it worked alright. We ended up having to clean them too often though, which is when we switched over to the XP3. But for the 10 gallon and the 29 gallon it was fantastic.

I have one in my 30 gallon currently. Although I don't like that it takes up swimming space, it does do a great job keeping the water clean.

I have the 4+ and the 2+. They do work, but I never really cared for them, mostly because they have no room for biomedia and they take up room in the tank. They were in boxes until I tried the 4+ in a tank of plants (it clogged very quickly); now it's sitting and waiting to be cleaned and put back in the box. The 2+ is OK for small hatchlings---it's out of the box for use with two hatching snappers. :D
