I have a 30G tank for my turtle and I want to get the best suited canister filter for it without it being too strong.. Im willing to pay for a XP3 but im afraid its too strong for the little tank.. Any suggestions? or is a XP3 best suited? I just heard the water current is too strong for that size tank and will push the turtle around.

No, many people have 350gph on a 30g tank. theres a little swirl in the water, but it won't push the turtles around if they are of any size.

I'd go with the XP3.

I have a 40 gallon tank with a Rena XP3, it's good, the turtle adjusts well to the current after a few days.

My XP-3 pushes my turtles around my55 gallon

an xp3 is wayy over kill in my opinion. i had an xp1 on my 29g and it worked amazingly. my water was always clear.

i have an xp2 on my 50g and it works just as well as the xp1 did on my 29g.


save your money for a bigger tank and just go with the xp1, trust me.

But an XP1 retails at over one hundred dollars and won't be upgradeable. However, if you pay for the XP3, you can keep it for upwards of a 75-90 gallon tank.

I have a fluval405 in my 40 gallon. The water is crystal clear and there is not too much swirl for my 3 inch to handle. The ammount of swirl depends on how you point the output. I would DEFINITELY go with a nice filter that can stay with you as you move up tank sizes.

I have the xp1 on my 55g. it does a great job.

but i do not think an xp3 on a 30g is too much flow, especially if your turtles are past a couple inches. You can always use a spraybar too and aim it against a wall to deflect flow.

Using a 300 gph or a 350gph will do just fine. It does put a little swirl in the water but you can point it up or so that the discharge rotates the water. I have two set ups in a 29 and 30 gallon and the water is very clear and the turtles are fine. Just make sure that the suction has a grate and they don't get stuck to it. -- Good Luck!!
