What wattage heater do you guys suggest for a 55 gallon tank?

i just bought a visi therm stealth heater rated for a 55 gallon tank when i set mine up

I think the rule is 3-5W per gallon of water, so that would be 165-275W for a 55 gallon tank.

I was gonna get the 200 watt but I said what's another $6 for the 250 watt

The danger with getting too large a heater is if it gets stuck in the on position. The temperatures will climb more rapidly than a smaller wattage heater and could reach dangerous levels before you have a chance to notice. But the Visitherm heaters are one of the more reliable heaters on the market so you should be safe. Just be careful when doing water changes or if you add cold water to the tank. The longer the heater has to stay on to bring the tank back to normal temperature, the hotter it will get. A 250W heater can quickly get hot enough to burn a baby turtle if they touch it.

hey guys i just ordered a 250 watt heater for my new 55 that i should be getting soon

i have a question since its starting to get cold how many watt should be in a 10 gallon cause as of now i dont have the money to set up everything in the 55

chris-va I have a 55 with a 200 watt and it does just fine. However, I don't see anything wrong with a 250 watt. It is your money!! m.

I had a 100 watt in my 10 gallon and it worked well...It might be a tad overkill but when it gets colder it might just be ideal

hey chris thanks cuz im still trying to purchase stuff for the new 55 so far all i have is the tank,heater and lights still need a filter
