After hearing about several people using algae magnets on the forum, I thought I'd look into one.

I went to the local petstore, and asked if they had any. The guy knew nothing, but I found them anyway  They seem to be dumber than usual over there these days, but that's a different story.

Anyhow, they didn't have the kind that floats, but they had these ones:

(I think the whole store is owned by Hagen... At least judging by the products they carry )
I picked up the medium size for $11.99 (the small was only $6.99, but tiny, and the large was a big price jump at about $30). Used it on both the tanks, and it worked great! I could even get into the tough spots around the underwater platforms.

If I could have gotten one of the floating ones, I would have, since I dropped it several times  But it wasn't too bad, since the frame for my net is metal, so it just stuck onto there when I fished it out.

Anyhow, my long and rambling point is if you've got a minor algae problem, check into an algae magnet (whatever brand it is). Works like a charm, and they're not too expensive either :)

Yeah, I want one of those, but I have an acylic tank, and even the ones advertised as safe for acrylic seem like they would scratch badly.

I don't have a problem with algea except there is some under the basking dock but not enough to worry about.

The "Mag Float" brand has one that says it's for acrylic:

Frankie was basking at the time, but she wasn't too keen on me reaching around in her tank :P After I was done, she did a nice Olympic dive off the basking area
Ralph, as usual, was more interested in me, but when he spotted it, he followed it a little ways, then went back to me. When I was taking it out, that's when he got really interested and started nipping at it :P

Thanks for the link, all the others I had seen were for glass and acrylic and they were super rough, but since that is just for acrylic, Hmm.
