on the right hand side of your tank, there are two houses that run to a tank. is that your filtration system?

You should post the pic you are referring too, maybe someone else can help you determine what it is but it does sound like a filter intake and output.

If you mean the two black hoses that connect to the canister filter, then yes. The filter was sitting on top of a plastic tank to make the hoses reach, it was right after i got the tank and i hadn't gotten my new filter yet.
